Limiting Beliefs
When I discovered what limiting beliefs were I felt robbed. I felt like I had allowed them to hold me back my entire life, each time I had wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new and different, there would be that voice that said, “Don’t.”
I didn’t realize it at the time, but that voice, which visits us in the form of fear and doubt, is really our primal brains trying to keep us safe. Its main purpose is survival- to keep us away from danger, the unknown and the unreliable, and will try it’s best to keep us in our little box of security. You know the voice, it’s the one that tells us, “You can’t, you’re not smart enough or capable to do that.”
Self-limiting beliefs are deeply ingrained thoughts and perceptions that hinder personal growth and prevent us from reaching our full potential. They act as mental barriers, holding us back from pursuing our dreams and achieving success. They make us feel inadequate and afraid of failure which prevents us from taking risks, pursuing opportunities and most importantly, taking action.
How to combat fear and doubt:
Write down what it is you want (your goals, dreams, aspirations), and then write down all the limiting beliefs that are preventing you from obtaining them. Ask yourself, “What’s holding me back? What’s stopping me?” Seeing this on paper will help you to be fully aware of these thoughts, so that the next time you hear them, you know exactly what they sound like, and eventually you will be able to control them and put them away. Keep in mind it’s these thoughts that are holding you back from living the life you want. It’s time to take control, set them free and live in your power.
For me, fear and doubt are louder than ever before because I’m stepping out of my comfort zone into unchartered territory. I’m experiencing change and growth and it’s not comfortable. But I also know I’m never going to be able to reach my fullest potential being comfortable. So, I make it my mission each day to acknowledge and then silence these limiting beliefs because I know I have the power to choose which thoughts I listen to, and they’re not the chosen few.
By recognizing and challenging these beliefs, we can break free from their constraints and open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. Remember, you have the power to rewrite your story and overcome any self-imposed limitations.
Now, go be amazing.
